Questions & AnswersQ: Do I need to know anything about XHTML or other coding languages to have a website? A: No. We handle everything from start to finish, and will maintain your site as frequently as you would like. Examples include: daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual contracts. We grant discounted hourly rates for pre-paid packages where you buy in packages of 8 hours or more. See a sales associate for more information. Q: Can I update/maintain the site myself? A: Yes. Depending on how your site is designed you might need an XHTML editor such as Macromedia Dreamweaver with a “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG) interface, where you can add content and upload the files to an FTP site. *NOTE* We cannot be held responsible for any alterations or changes that you make to your site in this way. It doesn’t take much to completely destroy the appearance of a page when altering the code on the site. There are “dynamic” alternatives where the content can be added, removed, or changed through an administrative panel. This administrative do-it-yourself type of site is generally more expensive to design, skin, and set up, but can save you money in the long run if you’re maintaining the site yourself. Q: What do I need to provide for Torchlight Design to create my site? A: See our section on Web Requirements. The most important thing we need is formatted, proof-read, spell-checked, content that is divided up into the appropriate page categories. Any images that you want to include should be provided Q: What if I don’t know what I want? Or what if I know what I want but don’t want to generate the content myself? A: We will work with you to design the site from start to finish. We want you to be happy every step of the way, so we will encourage your involvement, and require your signature on the completed and approved work. This stop-and-go method insures that we don’t create a site that you’re unhappy with, and will keep our costs down by not recreating entire sites that are disapproved at the end. We can work with you, your employees, and/or dictate the content that you would like to have on the site. Q: I don’t have any digital images for my site, but I don’t want it to be drab or dull. What are my options in this circumstance? A: There are many ways we can create or purchase images for on your site. One of the easiest ways can be for us to come to your facility or jobsite to take digital photographs of your products or services. Our second most popular method is the locating and purchasing royalty-free stock images on your behalf that relate to your industry. Depending on your type of business, we can also contact your suppliers/vendors to get images of the products that they provide to you. Q: How do I know I will like what Torchlight Design creates for my company? A: We guarantee your satisfaction. We will not stop working until you are happy. It’s that simple. We use several techniques to insure customer satisfaction from start to finish of a project. We will sit down with you or your team at the beginning of each project to get your approval on a pencil sketch of the general appearance of your site. We will also require the approval of a “mock-up” image of the main page on your site (a non-functioning image of the working site). We will work with you on the revisions of the mock-up, and then provide you with the final product. If you are unhappy with the final product we will start again from the most recent “approval point” and go from there. Q: How long will I need to wait for my site to be completed? A: Please allow two weeks for us to complete your site. In most circumstances we will be able to begin your site immediately please allow approximately 2 weeks from our first layout sketch to complete the site. Obviously complex sites will take us longer than simple sites. Extensive programming for do-it-yourself type sites can take up to 6 weeks to complete design, implementation, testing, and training. In those instances where time is of the essence, we can perform a "RUSH" job to complete your site very quickly at an added cost. Q: How does Torchlight Design's web design quality and pricing compare to its competitors? A: We feel that our quality of design is superior to all of our local competitors. We're not trying to puff ourselves up and say we're the best, but our quality is hands-down beyond that of other design firms in our market's price range. Because a part of what we do for other small businesses is Marketing Analysis, we generally know who our competitors are, their skill level(s), their costs, their pricing, and who their current or former customers are. This gives us a significant advantage when pricing our products and services. We are so certain that we have the best prices that we will match or beat the price on any "apples to apples" comparison of another web designer.
